Tickets for Taipei Deaflympics Opening Ceremony Go on Sale in May; All Sports Competitions Free to the Public

Marketing & Media Dept. / Apr. 16, 2009

The Taipei Deaflympics Opening Ceremony will kick off on Sept. 5 at 7 PM. Around 10,000 admission tickets will go on sale in May; regular adult tickets will cost around 1,000 to 6,000 NT each, student tickets will cost around 200 NT each, whereas tickets for those who are deaf will be free. A free exchange program will be offered as well for tickets to the 2010 Taipei International Gardening and Horticulture Expo with used Opening Ceremony ticket stubs. Further details will be announced here on the official Taipei Deaflympics website.

The Opening Ceremony for this year’s Deaflympics, directed by the internationally-renowned theatrical director Stan Lai, went through a year and half of extensive planning, and promises to be, in the words of Dr. Lai, the best opening ceremony ever in the history of Sports in Taiwan and of the Deaflympics.

Not-for-sale VIP tickets to the Ceremony will be offered to domestic/foreign VIP’s as well as sponsors, in appreciation for their contribution to this year’s Games. In order to encourage participation, tickets to the Ceremony rehearsal will be given out to those with disabilities/low income and to volunteers who will not be available to attend the Opening Ceremony because of their duties.

Being on par in level with the Olympics, this year’s Taipei Deaflympics will adopt a policy of free access to the public for all of its sport competitions and the Closing Ceremony. We hope that this policy will be an incentive for everyone to come out and cheer for the athletes of Chinese Taipei. Since seating at the venues are limited, we advise everyone to keep an eye out for the latest competition information.

Through our latest “I support You” sign language campaign, everyone can help us cheer for the 4,000 Deaflympics athletes coming from over 80 countries in the world using simple sign language gestures.
